The Voice from Nowhere

Richard Priebe passed away August 6, 2006

Back in the 1960s, when I had my Mercedes-Benz 190Db, I had been visiting Washington D.C.  Now, you may or may not believe that it went 73 mph the whole way there, flat out, top speed. On the return trip, I ran into snow before I got to Breezewood, and the car began to over heat.  So, I stopped at a gas station to see what was wrong. Well, it was nothing, just snow flakes had covered the grille and allowed no air thru.  A little water from the hose, and away I went.  I got on the PA turnpike there at Breezewood in a very heavy snow, blowing and falling, with large flakes.  As I accelerated toward fourth gear, I very clearly heard a voice say, "Get into the other lane!"  I was alone, and had no radio, so I did just that.  I turned into the other lane just in time to miss a line of stopped and piled up cars in the driving lane.  That is the story and it is true.
