Rocker Arm Adjustment Tips

1. Adjust all the exhaust valves in the firing order sequence, then do the intake valves in the reverse firing order sequence. This will A) minimize the amount of manually turning the engine, and B) provide a logical method to adjust all valves.
2. Slide the feeler gauge fore and aft to determine the clearance. Most shade tree mechanics merely slide the feeler gauge in and out (laterally). The pull on the gauge should be firm.
