Sanded and painted the center (crank-up) section. Approximate time to complete the work on the center section was seven hours. * 25-jun-2006: Started to sand and paint the outer section of the tower. Only got about half way through it. The winch section cleaned up very well. * 27-jun-2006: Measured the tower tube diameter with a micrometer. I.D. = 0.6" and O.D. = 0.77". Get three 5 foot sections of solid steel pipe (one for each leg). Run the solid steel pipe up about 1 foot into the legs of the tower and also down into the ground about 4 feet. The O.D. of the steel pipe needs to be less than 0.6" (the I.D. of the tower legs). * 01-jul-2006: Finished sanding and painting the outer section. * 02-jul-2006: Re-cabled the winch. * 06-jul-2006: Cut off rotted bottom section of pipe with a saws-all. * Concrete base size = 2' x 2' x 4' (length x width x depth). Volume = 0.6 cubic yards. * Local welder (for reference): Richard Belding Welding Service 657-6819 2024 State Route 64 Ionia, NY 14475 * Tower base: three prefabricated metal hinges and hinge pins are used in conjunction with rebar to reinforce the hinges in the concrete base. The concrete base will be 2' x 2' x 4' deep. The rebar and hinges will be set into the concrete base. The upper portion of the hinges will be bolted to a steel plate. Threaded rod with a diameter of 0.5" will be bolted to the steel plate and be inserted into the three legs of the tower. The legs of the tower have an I.D. of 0.6" and an O.D. of 0.7". The two section crank-up tower weighs a total of 55 lbs. The tower will be bracket to the soffet of the house at a height of xxx feet above the ground. Got new Tower / Current project put on hold ------------------------------------------- * 27-jul-2006: Project on hold. Got 40' of Rohn 25 with tilt base.
